1128

128 is a 3D animation that synthesizes research on indigenous Bisayan cosmologies, drawing from pre-colonial understandings of a layered universe—where existence unfolds across interconnected realms such as kapatagan, bundok, lawa, ilog, gubat, bulkan, burol, and pulo. Referencing the cosmological idea of a world held within a vast, living structure—often described in folklore as a kind of enclosing shell—the work translates these spatial beliefs into a contemporary digital environment. Rather than illustrating the cosmology literally, 1128 constructs an immersive system where each layer exists as both landscape and state of being, allowing the viewer to move through a stratified, mytho-spatial continuum. The piece ultimately functions as an amalgam of research and interpretation, bridging indigenous knowledge systems with 3D animation to reframe cosmology as something experiential, dimensional, and alive. 1128 was presented at //sense, a screening for experimental film, video, and animation at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago.
